James D. Sutton, MD

Dr. Sutton is South Mississippi’s most experienced cataract and implant surgeon with over 30,000 surgeries performed in the last three and half decades. He is the founder and CEO of Mississippi Eye Associates and is the Chairman of the Board of Ocean Springs Outpatient Surgical and Endoscopy Center. He is the first surgeon on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to implant the RX Sight Light Adjustable Lens5 and a clinical investigator for RX Sight. He has participated in multiple FDA phase 3 clinical trials helping to bring new ophthalmic medicines into production. 

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine in 1985, Dr. Sutton was an Internal Medicine intern at the Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans. His residency in Ophthalmology was completed at the LSU Eye Center and Charity Hospital in New Orleans, finishing in the Summer of 1989. After a year in Bradenton, Florida, studying advanced cataract techniques under Dan Pope, M.D., Dr. Sutton and his wife moved to Ocean Springs to open Mississippi Eye Associates.

In his spare time, Dr. Sutton is a fly fisherman, wood worker, quilter, musician, and model railroader.
