Emergency Department

Since 1967, we have provided continuous emergency services, even during natural disasters. Our Emergency Departments at Gulfport Hospital, Ocean Springs Hospital, and Pascagoula Hospital see more than 100,000 patients every year.

The First, the Largest, and the Most Experienced Emergency Room in Mississippi

Singing River Health System provides 24-hour emergency services at Gulfport Hospital, Ocean Springs Hospital and Pascagoula Hospital for residents of Jackson County, Harrison County, and surrounding areas.

Our emergency trained and board certified physicians includes trauma specialists, radiologists, orthopedists/orthopedic surgeons, oncologists, neurologists, and mental health physicians.

Emergency Room Services

Stroke

Time is brain matter. Our Emergency Department is a Certified Stroke Center at the Elite Gold Plus level from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, certifying our short “Door-to-Needle” administration of the clot-busting drug tPA to patients having an ischemic stroke.

Heart Attack

Time is heart muscle. From the moment a heart attack begins to the time that they are treated in the Emergency Department, heart cells could be irreversibly dying.

“Door to Balloon” time is the quality metric in the treatment of STEMI heart attacks. The guidelines recommend the artery be reopened within 90 minutes for best patient outcomes. Singing River Health System has an excellent “Door to Ballon” time and state-of-the-art cardiac facilities for patients in need of catheterization or surgical intervention.

Trauma Care

Our Emergency Departments are certified as Level III Trauma Centers by the Mississippi Department of Health. This certification demonstrates our ability to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization of injured patients. Our health system’s Emergency Departments are among only 15 Level III trauma centers in the state.

Mental Health Crisis Intervention

If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis, our Emergency Department provides mental health evaluations, and, if necessary, admittance to our inpatient psychiatric services. Read more about our Crisis Intervention Program.

Sexual Assault

We are available 24/7 to provide compassionate and trained medical care for patients who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. Our registered nurses are certified to complete official forensic medical exams and evidence collection following sexual assaults through the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) program. These nurses can also provide official testimony to law enforcement. We are the only Emergency Department on the Gulf Coast with this type of training and certification.

Triage Information

We see any patient for any complaint, but we do employ a “triage” system in the Emergency Room to first treat heart attack, stroke, and other critically ill and injured patients first. Those with minor complaints like a low-grade fever or the common cold may experience longer wait times.

Providing the Highest Standard of Care to All

Singing River Health System is committed to providing compassionate, quality care to everyone in Harrison County, Jackson County, and the surrounding areas. We have the privilege and responsibility of taking care of everyone in need, regardless of whether they are covered by Medicare or Medicaid, insured or uninsured.

Community-owned, safety-net hospitals such as Ocean Springs Hospital and Pascagoula Hospital are vital to the health of the community.
