Biography

Dr. Paul G. Matherne is a board-certified family medicine physician with over 40 years of experience serving the Gulf Coast community. He is known for his compassionate approach to care, specializing in primary and advanced wound care treatment. Dr. Matherne earned his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, completed his residency in Family Practice at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from LSU in Baton Rouge.

Highly regarded for his deep commitment to patients, Dr. Matherne takes the time to listen, answer questions, and provide individualized attention—often extending his care beyond office hours. He currently leads his private practice in Gulfport and serves as Principal Investigator at Velocity Clinical Research. His leadership extends to roles as Medical Director for Notre Dame Hospice, Saad’s Home Health, and the TB Health Department. He is also a longtime professor of Family Practice at the University of Mississippi Medical School Clinic.

Dr. Matherne is board-certified in Family Practice and holds professional memberships with the American Academy of Family Practice and the Mississippi Academy of Family Practice.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Matherne is an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church and enjoys woodworking, carpentry, and building model railroads.
