National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week
Did you know the Singing River Health System laboratories process over 100,000 tests/results per day? This week, April 24-30, marks National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, and Singing River Health System is taking the occasion to honor its lab professionals.
When a physician suspects a diagnosis, tests are ordered, and the results are used to finalize diagnosis and treatment.
“Our medical staff depends on these results to assist in important treatment decisions for our patients,” said Heath Thompson, Administrator at Ocean Springs Hospital. “Labs are utilized on just about every patient in our system.”
Accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Singing River Health System’s clinical laboratory services provide specimen collection at various sites throughout Jackson County, including mobile specimen collection for home bound patients. The lab is equipped with state -of-the-art technology in all testing areas with nationally certified staff that produce quality tests results in a timely manner.
Singing River Health System has the only clinical laboratory in the region with floor model molecular instrumentation. The lab manages all aspects of the testing process on-site and report results the same day as specimen collection, fulfilling the commitment to adopt the most effective practices to prevent the spread of infection and improve patient care in the community.
A team of over 100 lab professionals work together to operate the Singing River Health System Lab Services program. In addition to the active inpatient lab services, the Singing River Health System Lab outreach program provides services to an array of facilities in our community, including: local physician offices, nursing homes and surrounding clinics including the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
This year, in conjunction with Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, employees wanted to give back by gathering items to donate to Gulf Coast Women’s Center for Nonviolence, specifically Adrienne’s House which is based here in Jackson County.
