Bienville Orthopedics First in Mississippi with New Shoulder Replacement Technology
Procedure Performed with 3D Technology in the Singing River Operating Room
Dr. Donnis Harrison of Bienville Orthopedic Specialists is the first surgeon in Mississippi to use the Arthrex VIP (Virtual Implant Positioning) System to complete a total shoulder joint replacement surgery. The procedure, performed earlier this year at Singing River Hospital, delivers more precise placement of the new shoulder joint with better surgical outcomes and faster recovery time for most patients.
Using the Arthrex System, Harrison and the Singing River Surgical Team create a precise 3D “map” for sizing and positioning the new shoulder joint implant with patient specific instrumentation. This customized technology delivers better outcomes for the patient and more predictable long term results that can change patient’s lives.
“For patients struggling with years of wear and tear or arthritis in their shoulder joint, the pain often becomes unbearable,” said Dr. Harrison. “Being able to bring this advancement of the Total Shoulder procedure to Mississippi Gulf Coast is a rewarding part of my practice. The Arthrex Virtual Implant Positioning (VIP) System is enabling me, as a surgeon, to be more accurate with restoring patients’ anatomy. The results are showing improved patient satisfaction and functional improvement.”
Tiffany Murdock, Executive Director of Surgical Services at Singing River, reports very good outcomes with the new technology:
“Shoulder replacement surgery is a complex process, and we’re thrilled to bring this new technology to the operating room for gifted surgeons like Dr. Harrison and the entire Bienville Orthopedics Team. When it comes to orthopedic procedures, there’s no better place to be than Singing River Health System.”
