Singing River Health System Colorectal Program Earns National Accreditation for Rectal Cancer Care
Singing River Health System is proud to announce its Colorectal Program, led by Colon and Rectal Surgeon Dr. Ramon Brown, has earned national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). Singing River is the only health system in Mississippi to receive this distinction, and Dr. Brown is the only colorectal surgeon in the state accredited under NAPRC standards.
The accreditation recognizes hospitals and surgeons that meet the highest standards for rectal cancer care, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach that improves patient outcomes, reduces recurrence rates, and enhances quality of life and survival. Studies show that surgical patients treated at NAPRC-accredited hospitals experience a ten percent lower mortality rate compared to those treated at non-accredited facilities.

Over the past two decades, research has shown that rectal cancer outcomes vary significantly depending on specialization, training, and patient volume. The NAPRC was developed to address these differences and to standardize care based on international models proven to improve results for patients.
