About the Blood Drive
A familiar face to many throughout Singing River Health System and the community, Lt. Tom Spicer has served our country as a marine, a law enforcement officer in the City of Gautier for 21 years, and now is a devoted member of Singing River’s Campus Police Department, teaming up with system K-9, Jester in 2019 to enhance the safety and capabilities of the system’s police force.
Earlier this year, Lt. Spicer was diagnosed with colon cancer after having noticed some unusual digestive issues. Lt. Spicer suspected nothing more than a hernia, but after a CT scan showed troubling results, Dr. John Bailey of Singing River Surgical Services referred him for a colonoscopy where a tumor was discovered and subsequently removed.
Further scans after surgery detected that the cancer had spread to Lt. Spicer’s liver. Lt. Spicer is currently undergoing chemo treatments and awaiting surgery to remove the spot on his liver, but he remains optimistic.
“I have great faith in my care that I will beat the cancer,” Lt. Spicer says of his treatment and journey to cancer recovery.
