Physician - Pain Management Specialist

Biography

Dr. Chen joined SunCoast Pain Management, PA in 1998.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from the University of Texas.  After completing his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, he went on to complete his Anesthesiology and Pain Management Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.  Dr. Chen then completed an Interventional Pain Fellowship at the University of Florida Medical Center.  He is currently enrolled in the Master Program at the Tuck School of Business – Dartmouth College with an expected graduation in 2021. 

Dr. Chen served as the President of the Mississippi Pain Society from 2004 – 2005. He has published several peer reviewed scientific articles on various pain management topics, as well as lectured at national and state pain management conferences.

Outside of work, Dr. Chen enjoys studying the martial arts.  He has received his Black Belt in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu.  He has medaled seven times at the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships with two World Championships.  He has also won an International Chinese Martial Arts Championship and Mississippi State Karate Championship.  Dr. Chen has been active in giving back his time to the Boy Scouts of America through the years after receiving his Eagle Scout in 1986.
