Generally speaking, if you have bariatric benefits as part of your policy, a weight loss surgery procedure will be covered by insurance if you meet the listed requirements. We encourage you to check your own benefits by calling your insurance provider and asking if you have bariatric surgery coverage. You can also check with your employer for specific information about your policy.
Our team will help you verify your insurance benefits prior to meeting with one of our providers. Costs of the procedure or surgery will vary depending on the site where the surgery occurs, the type of procedure, and how long you are required to stay in the hospital. Our Jump-Start Low BMI Program is also a self-pay option. Prior to scheduling your initial appointment, our staff will go over procedure coverage with you and estimated out-of-pocket expenses.

Cash/Self-Pay Options
For patients with a bariatric exclusion in their policy, those who do not have insurance, and those seeking surgery outside the constraints of their insurance company, we offer many self-funded options for bariatric surgery. We have cash pay programs for many different types of weight loss surgery as well as secondary, or revision procedures.
Cash Pay Packages
Our cash pay packages include all costs associated with the pre-surgery office visits, facility fees, surgeon fees, anesthesia, overnight stay in a qualifying facility, and one year of follow-up care with your surgeon. Patients are also protected against the possible costs related to complications that could arise for up to 180 days following surgery for most surgery types. Patients must be medically cleared by their surgeon and medical team as well as anesthesia prior to surgery. The cost of pre-op testing and psychological evaluations is not included in the cash pay package price.

Medical Spending Accounts
If you’re considering weight loss surgery and have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA), you may be able to use pre-tax dollars to help cover your costs. When weight loss surgery is recommended by a doctor to treat conditions like obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea, it’s often considered a qualified medical expense, meaning you can use FSA or HSA dollars toward the procedure.
Many patients don’t realize that their account can also cover related costs like consultations, lab work, nutrition counseling, and follow-up care. To qualify, you may need a letter of medical necessity from your doctor confirming that the surgery is essential for your health. It’s a smart way to make your surgery more affordable while saving money on taxes. Singing River Weight Loss is happy to help guide you through the process.
