Age is no longer the only way to assess someone’s risk of breast cancer. Singing River has implemented Volpara Health’s Risk Pathways, a clinically proven breast cancer risk assessment tool that can help identify a patient’s risk by looking at breast density, family history, and other factors.
How the Risk Assessment Works
When you go in to one of Singing River’s imaging centers for your mammogram, you will be asked a series of questions about your personal and family history. Then, your breast density will be calculated. With this information, you’ll be given a score that will determine your risk of developing breast cancer: average, intermediate, or high.

| Average | You are usually not recommended any additional screening beyond your yearly mammogram. |
| Intermediate | You may receive a recommendation for additional testing such as a breast ultrasound. |
| High | An individualized care plan will be developed for you, which may include a breast MRI every six months. Depending on your family history, you may also qualify for genetic testing. If you qualify for genetic testing, we will connect you with a board certified genetic counselor to begin the process. |
