Robotic Arm Joint Replacement Surgery
Our surgeons are performing the highest quality and most precise partial knee, total knee, and total hip replacements available with the Stryker Mako® Robotic Arm.
Stryker Mako® Robotic-Assisted Hip and Knee Replacement
Revolutionizing the way joint replacement surgery is performed, the Stryker Mako® robotic-arm helps surgeons provide patients with a personalized surgical experience. Through CT-based 3D modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons using the Mako system can create a surgical plan unique to each patient, even going so far as to identify the implant size, orientation and alignment based on the patient’s distinct anatomy.
Mako provides joint replacement technology for:
- Total hip replacement
- Total knee replacement
- Partial knee replacement
Advantages of the Stryker Mako® Robotic-Arm
The precision of the robotic surgery allows many benefits to the patient including:
- Longevity of the implant
- Faster recovery
- Less post operative pain
- More natural feeling to the knee or hip joint
About the Surgery
Prior to surgery, a CT scan of the patient’s knee (or other joint) is ordered. After that, a three dimensional model is loaded into the Stryker Mako computer. This way, our surgeons can pre-operatively plan for the proper size and position of the implants they will be placing inside the patient.
Then, trackers are placed on the patient that show the robot where the patient’s limits are in space. Surgery begins, and the surgeon uses the robot as a tool to make cuts.
The cuts are kept in the exact same plane. In addition to that, there is a display monitor that shows us the interior of the joint in real-time. With this display, surgeons are able to change things such as tracking and balancing of the knee or hip.
